A fan of a team is someone who cheers for the team, attends games, and celebrates wins and deals with losses. A superfan is someone that leads cheers and chants at games, is at every single game no matter what, and is someone that the average person may see as a little wild.
Caden Brassfield of Broken Arrow High School has been voted as the Tulsa Area Superfan and he is proud to have earned that title.
“I attend every athletic event and school function,” he said. “It never fails. I always have a sore throat or a headache from all the cheering and yelling after the event. Winning this award means a lot to me because I’ve always loved getting people together and having fun chanting for our school’s events. And to win something saying I am one of the best at this means so much to me.”
Brassfield is a senior and has been instrumental in leading the Jungle Squad, the name of the Broken Arrow High School student section. He has attended cross country meets, swim meets, football games, spirit competitions, basketball games, volleyball games and wrestling matches, among other events at BAHS, all in support of his fellow Tigers.
While he enjoys cheering on his Tigers, Caden says that it is great to have an awesome group of students around him.
“My favorite thing about my school’s culture is the dedication from all of our students,” Brassfield stated. “We have one of the most bought in, loud, supportive student sections in Oklahoma.”
Throughout his life, Caden has had a number of people that have had an impact on him and helped him along the way. But out of all of them, he says that there are a couple of people that have had the biggest influence.
“My biggest role model in my life is my sister,” he said. “She always makes sure I’m okay before herself and is one of the smartest, most caring people I know. Our school is blessed with a lot of great teachers and staff members. One of my favorites is Derek Drake. He has taught me so much about how to lead people. My favorite thing he taught me was that it’s hard to hate a person whose story you know.”
