Coweta Fastpitch Softball Preview – Presented by BancFirst

Coweta had a fantastic 2021 season that ended with a heartbreaking 2-1 loss to Piedmont in the Class 5A state championship game. This year the Lady Tigers look to make another run at state and bring home the championship. “We are returning eight of nine starters from last year,” head coach Blake Dunn said. “I think we have enough talent to continue the success we have had over the last two years.” Dunn is looking forward to the season and believes he has a complete team that knows what it takes to get the job done.

Braedyn Sheofee (P, Sr.) and Tarun Robinson (P, Sr.) will be tasked with controlling the circle again this year. In 2021 the two combined for a 28-7 record. The duo is expected to have another fantastic season and limit scoring opportunities for their opponents. Kayley Iott (3B, Sr.) returns for her final season at Coweta after racking up 33 RBIs and five homers last year while batting just under .400. Bree Vaughn (2B, Sr.) and Tayen Allen (SS, So.) will join Iott in the infield where they’ll look to pick up where they left off last season. Together the three will control the infield as a cohesive unit and make the most of their opportunities at the plate. Dasia Mason (P, OF, Jr.) and Chaney Helton (OF, Jr.) utilize their speed in the outfield, and both are a threat at the plate and running bases. Last season the duo combined for 32 stolen bases. They’re joined by fellow outfielder Whitney Holcomb (OF, Jr.). The three outfielders combined for 65 RBIs and seven home runs. Mason led the way with a .432 batting average, Holcomb managed a .392 average, and Helton finished at .385. The three juniors look to have a big year ahead and will make the most of their opportunities at the plate.

Sierra Soto (C, Jr.) is a defensive leader behind the dish and no slouch on offense. Soto had 34 RBIs of her own to go along with three home runs and is a true dual threat player that can make an impact at any moment.

Other players to look for include: Justice Austin (OF, Sr.), Natalie Mason (U, So.), Zaidyn Denton (2B, So.), Karsyn Lydens (P, OF, So.), Kylie Porschien (OF, So.), Aiyana Perkins (OF, So.), Brooklyn Parrish (OF, So.), Daylee Day (P, 1B, 3B, Fr.), Lana Holmes (1B, Fr.), Kenadi Prather (P, 3B, 2B, Fr.), Jaeda Perkins (SS, Fr.), Madi Dixon (SS, Fr.), Emily Grammer (OF, Fr.), Zoe Childress (2B, OF, Fr.), Paris Parrish (2B, OF, Fr.), and Savannah Rupe (C, OF, Fr.).
