Brelee Burcham started participating in track events during her seventh grade year. Now a sophomore, Burcham is competing for the high school team and loving every minute of it.
“I love my team so much. I love how we have a laidback environment, but we still push ourselves. I love having other good people on the girls and boys team to help push me. My coaches are amazing and spend so much time planning intricate workouts,” said Burcham.
Burcham is involved in other activities as well including Coweta High School Leadership and the Johnson O’Malley (JOM) program.
Being a person of good character on and off the field is important to Burcham.
“To me being a good person is having integrity. It’s not what you do when people are around it’s what you do when no one is watching,” said Burcham. “A big influence in my life has been my older brother. He has shown me how to be strong in my faith, my mind, and my body. He shows what commitment and determination look like. He also shows how to have fun while training.”
Burcham has big plans once she has graduated from Coweta High School. Those plans include attending college and pursuing a degree.
“After graduating high school, I want to go to college. And as of right now I want to be a lawyer. I do want to run in college too,” said Burcham.
Before she leaves the friendly halls of CHS, Burcham is looking forward to making more memories with her friends and teammates.
“My favorite memory as a Coweta track athlete is when my team and I went to chili pepper for cross country. We were trying to stay hydrated before the race, but we ran out of water bottles. So instead of getting water out of the sink we decided to melt ice in the microwave,” said Burcham.
In her free time, Burcham enjoys going to and volunteering at her church.
“I like to bake and watch baking shows. I also like to go to the gym with my mom and my brother.”
