Sam Wood
Coweta Cross Country
When Coweta High School senior Sam Wood started competing in cross country he was in middle school and playing other sports.
“I mainly played baseball when I was younger. I joined cross country my seventh grade year, and I haven’t looked back since,” said Wood.
For Wood, there are many things about the cross country program that he enjoys.
“Coweta’s coaching staff is amazing, and our track is one of the best in Oklahoma. I love the camaraderie between the team whether we’re at the front of the pack or very last, we never give up and we all encourage one another,” said Wood. “I’ve enjoyed how physically fit I‘ve become and the athletes that I’ve met through the sport.”
In the classroom, Wood said his favorite subject is Anatomy and his favorite teacher is Ms. Dupree. Wood plans to attend college next Fall.
“I would like to study graphic design, so I can hopefully design running shoes in the future,” said Wood.
The senior said his teammates have impressed him this season and he’s enjoyed the runs they have made together.
“My favorite moment this season is running in the RSU After Dark XC race and medaling. “
Two teammates that have impressed me greatly this season have been Elliott Winter who has made massive strides in bringing his time down into the sub-19-minute 5k, and Ian Morrison who managed to take nearly 3 minutes off his time,” said Wood.
As for the Class of 2024? “I want my class to be remembered as the class that won state in track twice,” said Wood.
