When Leilani Rubio was in the 8th grade, she decided to run track. Now a member of the varsity track team at Coweta High School, Rubio will compete in the 400-meters and the 4X400 relay.
Rubio said she ran cross country but decided to focus on track this season.
“I ran cross country along with track up until my junior year and was the team manager this year,” said Rubio.
Track is a great reason to get out of school as well. For Rubio, it’s a win-win.
“I enjoy missing school to compete at track meets and having one less class in my schedule,” said Rubio.
The senior said she is making plans for her future with some help from someone important in her life.
“I plan on attending Oklahoma State University and majoring in strength and conditioning then go into OU’s DPT program after receiving my bachelors. My mom has had the biggest influence in my life. She is always there for me no matter what and encourages me to try my best even when I feel like giving up,” said Rubio.
The Coweta track team is loaded with talent, so we asked Rubio to tell us who is the toughest athlete, who is the funniest athlete and who is the most serious.
“The toughest on the team has to be Lizzy Winenger, the funniest is probably Taylor Sowers, and I personally don’t think any of us are serious, we laugh and joke all practice every day,” Rubio.
When she has some down time, Rubio said she enjoys going to the gym, shopping, and spending time with family and friends.
