Rivalries are as much a part of sports as the sport itself. Some rivalries are fun and both sides have a good time with it, while others are serious and neither side likes the other. Micheal Fletcher is a member of the Coweta Tigers football and baseball team. He says that in both sports, they play a lot of good teams but there is one that he enjoys beating more than the others.
“One team that we play that I really like to beat is Bishop Kelley,” he said. “There is always just a big rivalry when we play each other and there is also a lot of tension and animosity in those games.”
A senior, Fletcher has put in a lot to become the athlete that he is. He says that while the physical preparation is important, the mental side of it is just as vital.
“It has taken a lot of time, dedication, and hard work,” he said. “On top of that, there are also hours of film study and talking with coaches. As a team, I feel like we all make each other better. There is one player that I battle with the most in practice and that is Jaron Robbins. We have always had a competitive relationship. Every day we turn every drill into a competition of who can perform better and it definitely makes us better from it.”
Throughout his career, Fletcher has made some plays and enjoyed some memorable moments, but he says that there is one play against Bishop Kelley that stands out as his favorite.
“The highlight moment of my career would probably be stripping the ball and recovering it to beat Bishop Kelley and clinch a district title my junior year,” he recalled. “It was an awesome play and I was thankful to be a part of it.”
Whenever he has some downtime, one thing that Micheal enjoys doing is checking out his social media accounts. He says that there are some really good people out there to follow but he has one person whose content he enjoys the most.
“My favorite person that I follow on social media is Chris Bumstead,” he said. “I am very into weightlifting and a fitness lifestyle and the things he posts are what I enjoy.”
