A two-time Metro Lakes All-Conference player, Aaliyah Shawnee, is a junior this year and a valuable member of the Glenpool varsity basketball team.
Shawnee averaged 14 points, 4.0 assists, and 5.0 steals per game last year as a sophomore and she is looking forward to getting back on the court this season.
“What I love most about this team is how everyone likes to get involved and how much school spirit we all have,” said Shawnee. “We all play together, and we all get along.”
The combo guard could reach the 1,000-point mark by the end of the season this year and has Division I schools taking notice. Head coach Bobby Belveal led the team to the state tournament last year and is optimistic they can make another run this season.
In the classroom, Shawnee is a member of STUCO and said her favorite subject is math and her favorite teacher is Mrs. Reed.
“I would like to go to college for basketball and continue my education,” said Shawnee.
But before she graces another campus, Shawnee is focused on making the most of every opportunity to Glenpool HS.
Away from the court, Shawnee said she enjoys hanging out with friends and family.
“If I’m not with friends and family, then I’m training,” said Shawnee.
