Megan Tibbett of Jenks first started competing in track in the seventh grade. Now a senior at Jenks High School, Tibbetts will compete in the 100 hurdles and the 300 hurdles this season. Tibbett and her teammates are excited to be competing and doing the things they have spent endless hours training for.
“I love the bond that we have as a team and how we uplift and encourage each other to do our best,” Tibbett said.
Being a student-athlete at Jenks High School is more than just competing in competition, it’s making grades and being part of something bigger than yourself. That is a fact not lost on Tibbett who did not grow up as a youth in Jenks.
“Jenks is a very well-known school when it comes to sports, so I always try to represent it well by competing the best I can and showing respect to others,” said Tibbett. “As someone who hasn’t gone to Jenks their whole life, I believe it offers an amazing education, and the community is one of the most supportive communities I’ve ever experienced.”
Sportsmanship is also a big part of the overall development of the student-athlete at Jenks. Tibbett and her teammates have embraced being good sports on the field and supporting each other and their competitors.
“Showing good sportsmanship in track means supporting your teammates and other runners from other schools,” said Tibbett.
That support can come in many forms as Tibbett and her teammates found out last year when Moore High School and its track team was in need.
“My favorite memory is when Jenks fundraised money for the Moore athletes involved in an accident during their practice last February. It was inspiring to see how our team came together to support another track team across the state,” said Tibbett.
Her future plans include leaving the state for college and starting the next chapter in her life as a Razorback.
“I plan on attending The University of Arkansas, and I plan on studying nursing with a minor in business management,” said Tibbett.
School and athletics are enough to keep her busy, but when she does have down time, Tibbetts enjoys being around friends and family.
“I enjoy spending time with family and friends, running an online clothing business with my best friend, and going on runs with my dogs.”
