Jenks’ Sarah Dye – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by BancFirst Jenks

Jenks High School softball player and current outfielder Sarah Dye started playing the sport at a young age and has loved being on the field ever since.

“I have my Dad to thank for getting me involved in this sport. I started out on a tee ball team that he helped coach, and from there I had a passion for the game,” Sarah said.

Now a senior, Dye said she enjoys everything about being a member of the varsity team at Jenks.

“The thing I enjoy most about Jenks softball is the team atmosphere and the coaching staff. Everyone is very easy going and are very hard workers. I enjoy that the team has a lot of hardworking players. I think that is why we have the potential to be great, and because of our potential I think we have a really high chance of going back to state this spring and winning a state championship for slow-pitch,” Sarah said. “As a senior and despite being in the middle of a pandemic, I make sure to go all out because you’ll never know when your last game will be.”

This year’s team is a tight group full of leaders and potential leaders. Dye said the team is close with one another and everyone is able to speak their mind.

“I admire how everyone is able to pick someone up with words of encouragement. As I said earlier, because of the talent on this team everyone competes and works hard for each other and that is the thing that I admire the most about this team,” Sarah said.

Playing for the name on the front of the jersey is a culture at Jenks. Representing the school in competition is something Dye is proud to do.

“Since Jenks High School is a very big school, I carry a lot of pride with me when it comes to representing my school. I always make sure to be my best every time I put on a Jenks uniform, because I know that I’m not only representing myself but my school as well,” said Sarah. “One thing that everyone should know about Jenks High School is the competitive environment, not only in athletics but in academics as well. Due to the competitive environment, I’ve grown to strive to be the best in all that I do whether that means on the field or in the classroom.”

Showing good sportsmanship is part of that culture as well and Dye knows the importance of it, win or lose.

“In my opinion sportsmanship is everything, even if a game isn’t going the way I want it to. It doesn’t matter if the end result did or didn’t go your way. What matters is how you and your team carry themselves after the game,” Sarah said.

After she graduates, Dye plans to attend college and major in physiology or biochemistry and later go on to medical school and become a surgeon.
