Jenks Trojans Boys Basketball Preview – Presented by BancFirst

Coach: Will Finfrock

21-22 Record: 21-7

Last season was a solid one for the Jenks Trojans, ending with a 21-7 record and a trip to the Class 6A state tournament. With a new season on the horizon, head coach Will Finfrock says that his squad is primed for another postseason run. “Our guys are hungry to get back to the state tournament after going two out of the last three years,” said Finfrock. “We have two three-year starters back as well as two other players that have been on varsity for three years, I think we have the experience and grit to make another appearance and then some. We have multiple shooters that can break records this year along with some young talent that will look to contribute. This team is player led and they do a great job trusting one another on the court.”

Leading the team on the court this season will be the senior duo of Dylan Golightly (6-4, Sr.) and Gron Tata (6-0, Sr.). Dylan is a third-year starter that has grown his game each and every year. He has taken his defense to the next level and is quick enough to guard the one and strong enough to guard the five. He has great vision and instincts. He has a consistent shot and can score from any level. Tata is a bulldog and has the quickness to be a one man fastbreak. He has a consistent shot and great vision in the lane. His first step quickness is a big advantage and he has great touch around the rim.

Another key player this year will be Carter Mundy (5-10, Jr.). He is the floor general for the team and his ability to use ball screens, get his teammates into the right positions to score, and vision in the lane makes him a special athlete. Deke Thompson (6-3, So.) has a great chance to break three-point records during his high school career at Jenks. He has unlimited range and has a quick release. He has greatly improved his mid-range game and is becoming more aggressive on drives to get all the way to the rack as teams will run him off the three-point line. He has massive upside as he continues to grow physically.

Alex Dodder (6-3, Sr.), Zander Hart (6-3, Sr.), Roman Trice (6-5, Sr.), Jeff Fletcher (6-4, Jr.), Milo Stufflebeam (6-4, Jr.), Kason Evans (6-6, So.), Carson Mariska (6-0, So.), Jace Morgan (6-4, So.), and Evan Goodwin (6-0, Fr.) are other members of the team that will look to play a role this season.
