Coach: Colby Wade
21-22 Record: 13-13
Last season the Liberty Tigers were extremely young but return the majority of their starting lineup along with a good group of talented freshmen that will provide depth and energy this season. “I believe we have grown up a ton this summer,” head coach Colby Wade said. “We will be junior and sophomore led.”
Trent Thompson is the catalyst for the Tigers on offense. A year ago, Thompson led the Tigers in every offensive statistical category and shot over 40 percent from behind the arc. He has worked hard over the offseason to improve his game further and coaches are impressed by his further development. Coach Wade believes that there is a good chance Thompson will be one of the top players in Class A this winter.
“He guards the best player every night on the defensive end and handles the ball the majority of the time,” Wade said. “He is a good leader and is still growing in that category.”
Jayce Wheeler heads into his sophomore campaign after starting every game as a freshman. Wheeler shoots the ball well and is expected to be a solid contributor on both ends of the floor.
Brandon Aguayo is one of the Tigers best defenders and is always looking to take on a new challenge. He is always fighting for 50/50 balls and isn’t afraid to do the dirty work. Aguayo is also an excellent rebounder and positions himself well when blocking out.
Brady Cornwell is a player that has immeasurable intangibles and instincts. Cornwall is the type of player that every coach loves to have on their team and always brings a team-first mentality. Also look for Barrett Brown to make an impact and bring his veteran presence to Liberty this winter.
