Q&A with Union’s Mia Kirk – Presented By Raising Cane’s

VYPE: When and how did you first get into playing your sport?

Mia: When I was little, I swam but fell out of it when I was in middle school. I had someone friends that were swimmers in high school, and they really connected me back to the sport.

VYPE: Who inspires you and why?

Mia: I would say my mom is the one who inspires me. She was diagnosed with cancer and fought as hard as she could. Every day she showed up to work and showed up as a mother. It was truly insane seeing how she was able to fight cancer and still have the biggest smile on her face every day. She inspires me to keep fighting no matter what the battle is.

VYPE: What is your favorite part about being on a team?

Mia: Mia: my favorite part about being on a team is how friendly and positive people are. My team feels like a second family to me. I love how I can go to anyone for anything. Everyone is always so warm to each other. My team is very welcoming and far from judgmental.

VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade and why?

Mia: I think my favorite teacher is my eighth-grade English teacher Mr. Tramell. He was the funniest, kindest, and most chill teacher ever. He taught me so much that year.

VYPE: Why are you passionate about your sport?

Mia: I’m passionate about my sport because it makes me feel good. whenever I achieve something, I feel great, and it makes me want to work harder. the sport is also so much fun.

VYPE: What has been your favorite memory of playing?

Mia: my favorite memory must be practices. although some of them are difficult I always have my friends with me in the water always cracking jokes and having fun while swimming.

VYPE: What is your favorite part about representing your high school as an athlete?

Mia: my favorite part is just being able to compete at meets and being given the opportunity to rep my school.

VYPE: You can pick any place for a summer vacation, where do you go and who do you take with you?

Mia: I for sure would go to Hawaii. Hawaii is such a beautiful place, and I would really love to go there. I would take my best friend Claire. I feel like her and I would have the best time together if we went there.

VYPE: Here is your chance to give a shoutout or say thank you to anyone you wish.

Mia:  I would like to say thank you to my mom. she was a very big supporter of mine. she showed me what a fighter she was and that seriously encouraged me. I’d like to say thanks for the amazing impact she made on my life.
