The Sandites finished last season with a record of 31-8. Head coach Matt Brown admits the team will be young this season but will return most of the pitching staff which could help this team win games early in the season.
“We are going to be young in some spots but return a good amount of pitched innings from last year. We should get better as the year goes along,” said coach Brown.
Three-year starter Dom Ornelas is back behind the plate for the Sandites. Ornelas plays a big role in the offensive production and will call the defense for Sand Springs.
“Dom makes us go offensively and runs the show defensively,” said coach Brown.
Another player to watch is Brody Rutledge. Like Ornelas, Rutledge is a three-year starter.
“Brody does everything we need him to do for the team,” said coach Brown.
Newcomer Easton Webb (Fr.) will pitch and play third base. Coach Brown expects Webb to develop into a solid starter and be a player who could develop into a productive pitcher and infielder.
