Sand Springs’ Frank Cooper – Teacher Spotlight – Presented by Spoon Drug

Frank Cooper is proud of his three-plus decades in Sand Springs.

Charles Page High School principal Stan Trout calls him the heart and soul of the Sandite Spirit.

“I think he considers me to be emblematic of our school’s affirming and inclusive culture,” Cooper said. “I also enjoy watching all sports. I am delighted to attend sporting events; particularly, Sandite games.”

Cooper emcees at Sand Springs’ pep assemblies and does so with a passion. He also teaches social studies, United State History, World History, AP Government and is the Student Council Sponsor.

But kindness is his top priority.

“This is my 31st year at Charles Page High School and I have tried to be an ambassador of kindness my entire career. I am a big believer in the power of kindness. I want my students to believe they are important, they are loved, and the joy of life is in the journey,” Cooper said. “I encourage them to be active listeners and to treat each other with dignity and respect. We call that loving the person in front of you.”

Cooper wasn’t satisfied with a career in law, which led him to his current position.

“I practiced law for seven years and realized that I was uncomfortable in a constant adversarial role,” he said. “I always liked academia and the emotional investment in a school and its community. I like to say I am a lover not a fighter.”

Sand Springs is the perfect place for him.

“I think of Sand Springs as the proverbial city on the hill. The people are kind and generous. Their light shines in everything they do. They are welcoming, helpful and open hearted. They model civility and compassion. Their goodness is sincere and is reflected in the children they send to our schools,” Cooper said.

Away from his school life, Cooper enjoys valuable time with his family, playing golf and reading.

“I am a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. Consequently, I am always thrilled to be with my family and friends,” he said.
