Sand Springs’ Hannah McKelvey – Volleyball Spotlight – Presented by Tulsa Bone and Joint

Hannah McKelvey has played a big role in her final season as the setter on Sand Springs’
volleyball team.
McKelvey has posted a set assist percentage of 38 percent and her serving average is at 90
percent. Private lessons have helped her improve in the areas she needed the most
improvement.

“I feel like I have improved in setting this past year,” McKelvey said. “I have been doing
private lessons that have really helped and will continue to get better with it.”
Her biggest focus has been in her leadership skills and hard work.
“I am wanting to excel in leadership and be a role model for my teammates. Always being
able to give my best effort when playing,” McKelvely said. “I have always been encouraging
others to keep the morale up on the court. Volleyball is a mental game that a lot of players
struggle with. I would like to say that I have always been welcoming to every teammate
when I’ve gotten the chance to play with them.”
Aside from being the Sandites’ setter, McKelvey has had the opportunity to play another
role.
“My most memorable moment would have to be when Coach Jackson played me as a right
side hitter and I got two kills,” she said.
A former teammate has left a big impression on McKelvey.
“My biggest influence would have to be Teyha Johnson. She was very welcoming to me the
two years I played with her. I always looked up to her and she had made me the player I am
today,” she said.
Following her time at Charles Page High School, McKelvey wants to attend college and
major in nursing while also continuing her volleyball career.
“I hope to become a pediatric nurse and help children. I would like to play volleyball
further in college, I am just looking at my options,” she said.
