Sand Spring’s Laylah Bland – Cheer Spotlight – Presented by Spoon Drug

Anyone attending a football game at Charles Page High School this fall will certainly take notice of the cheer squad. One member, Laylah Bland, is a co-captain and she wants to encourage everyone to come out and watch this Sandites on the football field and the basketball court.

“This season I’m excited to help lead the cheer team because I’m one of our co-captains, and I’m excited to cheer at basketball games,” said Bland. “I like being a student-athlete because our school is very supportive and especially our cheer team is just fun to be a part of.” Bland started as a gymnast before deciding to become a cheer leader in middle school. Bland, the friends she has made during her time in cheer is what she loves the most.
“I’ve enjoyed making new friendships, the bonds we have with each other are just different then bonds with other friends,” said Bland.

Bland said the team this season is doing great, even the newcomers to cheer.

“Aubree Tolbert and Mikena Stephens are two to watch. They’re completely new to cheer and are doing amazing so far, they’ve really stuck out to me,” said Bland. “I love how determined, hardworking, and loving this group is, I love the family bond that we have.”

In the classroom, Bland said her favorite subject is History.

“I think it’s fun to learn about my state and country,” said Bland.

One day she plans to become a hairstylist and wants to attend college to study marketing or business.

Bland wants her class to be remember for being a close group and always supporting one another.
