Sapulpa Chieftains Boys Basketball Preview – Presented by RibCrib

Coach: Rickey Bruner Jr.

21-22 Record: 4-19

Fifth year head coach of the Sapulpa Chieftains Rickey Bruner Jr. is excited about the young talent that he has filling out this year’s roster. The Chieftains may be young, but they have a lot of players that got to experience significant playing time a year ago. “This team will compete every possession and will be fun to watch,” Bruner said. “We will get better and better each game.”

Kylen Edwards (Jr.) is a VYPE Top 100 nominee and was the Chieftains leading scorer a year ago. As a sophomore Edwards nearly averaged a double-double with 10.0 points and 7.0 rebounds a game. Expect to see a jump in production this season in both points and rebounds while he makes an impact on all over the court. Coaches have been impressed with his ability to improve and expand his game and expect him to be one of the better players in a tough Frontier Conference.

Rickey Bruner III (Fr.) will have big responsibilities as a freshman and point guard for Sapulpa. Bruner has a strong work ethic and is always finding new ways to expand his game and has already gained the confidence of teammates in preseason workouts. Isaac Ragsdale has shown tremendous growth and improvement since last season and coaches are expecting big things from him this year. “He’s one of the hardest workers on the team,” coach Bruner said.

Also look for Roman Abbage to make an impact both on and off the court. Abbage is a vocal leader for the Chieftains and brings great energy to the court and locker room. Look for the Chieftains to compete at high level week in and out and build chemistry throughout the season. While the team is fairly young, they are loaded with players ready to make an impact.
