Sapulpa Football Preview: Defense – Presented by Rib Crib

2021: 6-5

Eight returning starters in the base 3-4 defense that brings a lot of movement and pressure. “We have a lot of solid linebackers this year,” Holt said, “we want to get them on the field and let them run around, be physical, and make plays.” Xander Konnell (6-1, 205, Sr.) is the defensive leader for Sapulpa, and he has the stats to prove it. In 2021 he totaled 105 tackles, two interceptions, and five sacks. Cameran Mackey (5-10, 225, Sr.) is another linebacker with something to prove in 2022 after he finished last year with 88 tackles and two sacks. Anthony Papa (6-0, 245, Sr.) is an anchor on the defensive line with a nose for the ball. In 2021 he had 43 tackles, four sacks, and an impressive five fumble recoveries. Safety Ben Bryant (5-11, 170, Jr.) had 38 tackles and two interceptions while cornerback Brandon Woods (5-10, 165, Jr.) had 31 tackles, two interceptions, and a touchdown last season.

9-2 – at Tahlequah

9-9 – vs. Bartlesville

9-23 – at Durant

9-30 – vs. Coweta

10-7 – at Del City

10-13 – at Glenpool

10-21 – vs. Memorial

10-28 – vs. McAlester

11-4 – at East Central
