Sapulpa Girls Soccer Captains Q&A – Presented by Tulsa Bone and Joint

VYPE editor Brad Heath caught up with seniors Stormie Ramsey and Khaige English of the varsity soccer team at Sapulpa High School to find out what it has been like to play soccer at Sapulpa and what their plans are once they graduate.

VYPE: What position do you play for Sapulpa?

Ramsey: Either forward, center mid, or outside mid for high school, but for my club team I play defense.

English: Forward or center mid mostly but I can play anywhere.

VYPE: When the season started, what was the goal for the team?

Ramsey: To get to the state tournament!

English: I expect that we will play well. It’s hard to say how far we will go exactly but we have a lot of gifted athletes so hopefully we get to state.

VYPE: How excited were you when you found out you would get to play this year?

Ramsey: We are all super excited and very thankful that we get to play, hopefully, a full season.

English: We are all super excited to be able to be back on the field and are hoping we get to finish it out.

VYPE: Who is a player to watch this season?

Ramsey: Ella Chaffin. She is a sophomore, but this is her first year of high school soccer. She’s super-fast and can shoot very well.

English: Asia Dunn, our freshman sweeper. She is quick and smart on the ball and she is definitely like a safety net for us on the back line.

VYPE: What is the funniest thing you have heard someone say on the field during play?

Ramsey: “I hope I can make it to the bathroom!”

English: I once heard a girl say, “I’ve missed more shots in this game than boys I have dated and that’s saying something.”

VYPE: When did you first start playing soccer?

Ramsey: I played at the local soccer club in Sapulpa where my dad coached. I played on a team with all best friends who are still my best friends today.

English: I played on a team called the Strikers at Sapulpa Soccer Club and I remember being so nervous but then when I actually got out on the field it was almost like I knew it’s where I belonged.

VYPE: What are your plans after you graduate?

Ramsey: I’m going to play soccer at Seminole State.

English: I have not yet decided where I am going after high school but I do want to study psychology.

VYPE: What makes Sapulpa High School a great place to be a student-athlete?

Ramsey: What makes Sapulpa a good place to be a student-athlete is our teachers and coaches. They genuinely care about us and we aren’t just a number to them.

English: The teachers and coaches want us to be successful and work with us to make it happen. They do everything in their power to help us be successful.

VYPE: Any big plans this summer?

Ramsey: My plans for the summer are to hang out with my friends and hopefully go to the lake a lot. I also plan on training a lot to keep me ready for college soccer.

English: I plan on hanging out with my friends, getting a good tan, hopefully go to nationals again with my club team as well as doing some soccer and weight training.
