Sapulpa High School

Sapulpa High School girls basketball is known for being a competitive team and a group that is relentless in their pursuit of success. Head coach Darlean Calip has a lineup dotted with players who understand their roles and what it takes as a team to win. One of those players is junior guard Jayla Moton.

“I think what I love most about being a student-athlete is the discipline it provides, and how it helps me learn new skills on and off the court,” said Moton.

As a team, Sapulpa is poised for another solid season as several players, including Moton, return to the lineup.

“The team is coming together well. We are learning each other, finding the things we do well together and individually, and growing stronger together,” said Moton.

Teams are like family and while this group is willing to put in the work to be successful, they have fun doing it.

“I love how goofy they [teammates] are, and how we really take care of each other. They bring so much joy,” said Moton.

But the goal for the season remains the same as it was in years past.

“My goal is not only to win another championship, but to expand my role on the team,” said Moton.

Off the court, Moton is involved in several other activities including NASA, NAACP, and the Blue Crew. The junior said she does have a favorite subject in school.

“My favorite subject is English, and my favorite teacher is Mr. Lusk,” said Moton.

Moton embraces the challenges of being a student-athlete in high school, while making plans for her future post-graduation.

“I would like to attend college, and get a Doctor of Medicine degree,” said Moton.

In her free time, Moton said she enjoys spending time with her family and friends and she enjoys sitting down with a good book.
