Athletes have to put in work and time to reach the goals they have set for themselves. But most athletes will tell you that while the work they put in is important to their success, they also have to thank those around them that have influenced their lives.
“My grandma is my biggest role model,” she said. “She helped me develop my love of playing tennis. She also modeled a great work ethic too.”
Rogers first started playing tennis when she was in the sixth grade. She is now a junior at Union High School and is a member of the Lady Redskins tennis team. She says that her coach, Tyler Ashley, believes in all players playing different positions, so she has played both singles and doubles. Coach Ashley has also played an important role in Rogers’ athletic career.
“Coach is one of my favorite teachers,” she said. “He has taught me how to be stronger with the mental side of tennis and he has also never given up on me. I am thankful for his influence on my life.”
While she is thankful for those in her life that have helped her along the way, Savanna has put in the hard work to get where she is.
“I have put in a lot of hard work and time to continually get better,” she said. “I have also had to be disciplined in order to stay focused and not get off track. I also practice a couple of days a week at the University of Tulsa tennis drills.”
Savanna has enjoyed a lot of memorable moments as a tennis player, but she says that one moment for her stands out among the rest.
“The highlight moment of my career would have to be winning State at doubles during my freshman year with my partner, Ashley Barber,” she recalled. “Last year was tough because we were not able to play due to covid, but I am working extra hard to get back on the podium this year.”
