Unlike other sports like softball, wrestling or basketball, golf is a sport you can play well into your golden years. Many people play golf for their entire lifetime. That could be the case for Bishop Kelley varsity golfer Peyton Coburn.
Entering her senior season, Coburn said the team is excited to see how they stack up against the competition in Class 6A.
“This year we were bumped up to the 6A classification. We finished 6th at the state preview, so I am excited to see our growth and continued improvement this season at some different tournaments than we usually play,” said Coburn.
A golfer since the age of five, Coburn said being part of the Kelley family has given her opportunities to do great things on and off the golf course.
“My most favorite part about being an athlete at Bishop Kelley is the amazing opportunities we have. Whether it be strength and conditioning or practice or competitions, all help to make our athletes the best we can be. At BK, I am the National Honor Society Vice President, yearbook editor, Podcast Club President, and a part of our digital media club,” said Coburn.
If you play golf, you have a favorite place to play and a favorite club to hit. Coburn could name both.
“My favorite club to hit is my 8-iron, I am probably the most consistent with it and if I am wanting to make any swing changes it’s my first choice to help me get the feel of something new. My favorite course to play is Dornick Hills in Ardmore, it was designed by Perry Maxwell, it has a lot of challenges, and is always a fun place to play at,” said Coburn.
When her time at Bishop Kelley comes to an end, Coburn will take her talents to Bradley University where she will continue her education and golf career. “I am excited to head up to Illinois and play some great courses with an amazing team,” said Coburn.
