Tanner McMurray

When most people are four years old, they are playing with their toys and waiting on the next snack mom or dad will offer up. Bishop Kelley’s Tanner McMurray was playing baseball.
“I first started playing baseball when I was four years old. I had been watching my older brothers for as long as I could remember and started playing as soon as my parents would let me,” said McMurray.
Now a senior at Kelley, McMurray can play three positions (shortstop, catcher, RH pitcher) and has spent the offseason improving his game.
“I have been working hard at all aspects of my game but have put in a ton of effort into becoming a more complete hitter. Also, I have been focused on getting stronger and faster because I know I will need that at the next level,” said McMurray.
His future at the next level is set, but McMurray is focused on the task at hand with the Comets.
“After graduating from Bishop Kelley, I plan to attend Oral Roberts University. I am excited to pursue my dream of playing college baseball. Our team is excited about the challenge of playing 6A this spring. We continue to improve each week and are ready for the challenge. We came up one game short last year and that still stings, so we are looking to get back to a championship opportunity. We have a great coach and lots of players willing to step up at any time to help the team,” said McMurray.
As a team, the Comets have the chemistry and the talent to do something great this season.
“The thing I enjoy most about my teammates is developing as players together. Whether it is on the field, or in the weight room or away from the field all together. Becoming a team and supporting each other in all aspects. I think what I enjoy most about baseball is learning the challenges of the game, both mental and physical. I love how there are individual moments, but it takes a whole team to accomplish goals and I love what it teaches about the game of life with teammates by your side,” said McMurray.
For McMurray, his brothers have played an important role in his life.
“I have had many important people that have been influential in my life, but I would say that one of the biggest influences in my life has been my older brothers, Jake and Cooper. For as long as I can remember I wanted to be just like them, I watched how hard they worked with all the extra hours they put in and the way they conducted themselves. Watching them achieve their goal of playing college baseball. It made me want to be just like them,” said McMurray.
