Coach: BRYON FLAM
22-23 Record: 26-3
Last season did not end the way that Metro Christian boys basketball coach Bryon Flam and his team had wanted. After an outstanding regular season, they lost in the Class 3A state championship game. They are eyeing another deep playoff run this season as the squad brings back a solid core from last year.
“We have three starters back from last year’s runner up team,” Flam said. “We also have two players sliding into starting roles that played a lot of minutes last year. I think we have a chance to be really good again and players have been working hard.”
One of those key players coming back is Wyatt Powell (6-3, Sr.). He had an incredible year last year averaging 16.6 points and 6.3 rebounds a game. He also had 51 steals. He was one of the leaders that got the Patriots to the finals. He has explosive athletic ability and can score in a variety of ways. He is also a good defender and rebounder. He will look to continue to lead the team this season.
Jackson Sowards (6-6, Sr.) is another player that made a lot of contributions last season. He ended the season with a 10.4 point and 5.3 rebounds per game average, while also blocking 32 shots. After putting in more work in the offseason, Sowards is looking to play a big role again this season for the Patriots.
Henry Emerson is a quiet leader for Metro Christian. He is a great defender and rebounder and he runs things on offense and creates shots for others. He is extremely quick and has a knack for making the right play.
One of the under the radar type of guys on the team is Kyden Mills. He is a senior that has been in the program and does all of the right things. Has great work ethic and is a leader to others. Extremely smart and a role model to others.
Assistant coaches for this year’s team are Roger Roth and Connor Dilley.
