Baseball season is just around the corner, but players all over the state are hitting the cages in preparation for the upcoming season. One player looking forward to the start of the new season is Metro Christian’s TJ Akers. Akers, a junior pitcher, outfielder, and first baseman for the Patriots enjoys representing his team and his teammates in competition.
“What I like most about being a student-athlete at Metro Christian is that the teachers and coaches invest in the students in all aspects. They encourage the students to be the best version of themselves,” said Akers.
Akers said what makes being a Patriot special is the bond the players share and the care the coaching staff puts into the team.
“I love that my teammates are all close and support each other, and our coaches truly care about their players,” said Akers.
In the classroom, Akers is a member of National Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society, Fellowship of Christian Athlete, and Spanish Club. Akers also participates with the Metro Christian fishing team. Academics are important to Akers and ensuring he has the scores needed for college, he is enrolled in a prep course at Huntington Learning Center.
“I am taking the ACT Prep course at Huntington Learning Center. I like that the course is a personalized plan to help with my needs. I have enjoyed working with the instructors, as they have been beneficial in helping me feel more confident about the ACT,” said Akers.
Once Akers adds graduate to his name, the next step is college where he plans to study engineering and has an interest incontinuing his playing career.
In his free time, the junior said it’s all about being with friends and enjoying the opportunity to spend time outdoors.
“I enjoy hanging out with friends, fishing, and being outdoors,” said Akers.
This season Metro Christian will play in Class 3A, District 6 with Beggs, Holland Hall, Kiefer, Morris, Okmulgee, and Sperry.
