By SCOTT METZ

Summit Christian Academy sophomore Carson Banham is a multi-sport athlete. He plays quarterback and linebacker in football, point guard for basketball, shortstop and pitcher in baseball, and midfielder for soccer. Of these sports, soccer is a highlight.

Getting to where Carson is has required determination. Carson stated, “To become successful it has taken commitment and hard work in both athletics and academics. I have had to prioritize both over things like social events.”

Asked what motivates Carson, he stated, “Competition motivates me. I love to compete and push myself to get better.”

Many memories are made while playing sports. Carson said, “The highlight of my high school career was winning back-to-back district championships in soccer and winning Summit soccer boys’ first every playoff game.”

On the soccer field, Carson knows that a team effort makes a difference. Carson reflected, “I enjoy working with all my teammates; however, our seniors: Jacob Langbartels and Connor Banham mean a lot to me. It is special to be able to play with my brother Connor and Jacob helps push me to be a better player.”

In terms of who has influenced Carson the most, he looks towards family. Carson explained, “My parents are a big influence in my life.  They work hard and are an example of how to be a good person.”

When it comes to someone at school that has had the biggest impact on Carson, he feels that been that motivating person. “Coach Kevin Jennings has had the biggest impact. He motivated me to continue to try even when school was difficult.”

Besides family and coaches helping to shape Carson, faith plays an important role in Carson’s life. “I thank God for my athletic abilities and blessing me with the life I have. I am grateful for the opportunity I have to play all these sports.”

Carson highly enjoys representing Summit Christian Academy. He stated, “It is an honor to be able to represent my school and especially to be named captain for both football and soccer and be a leader on and off the field.”
