As the basketball season rapidly approaches, many area players like Trinity Garnatz of Summit Christian School have been in the gym practicing and preparing for the long season to come. For Garnatz, representing Summit Christian is something she is proud to do.
“My favorite part about being a student-athlete at Summit is how flexible the teachers are with us and the support from the coaching staff we get,” said Garnatz.
The senior is a starting post or small forward for the Eagles. Her versatility on the court allows her teammates and coaches to find ways to adjust and compete on both ends of the court. Garnatz said her teammates are more like family.
“I love how my teammates became my family. They’re supportive and want the best for everyone. They push me to step up and do what they know I can do,” said Garnatz.
The goal for every team is the same coming into a new season, but for Garnatz, the potential she sees in her team and teammates gives reason for optimism in her final year of prep basketball.
“Our goal is to make it to state but to also play as hard as we can because our hard work is what will get us there. We have so much potential this year with the girls we have and I’m excited because I can see how far we can go with that potential. Most of us have grown up with each other so we have a lot of chemistry, but we are also welcoming the new girls because they are becoming a part of our basketball family,” said Garnatz.
Garnatz is a member of National Honor Society, STUCO and said her favorite subject in school is math. Garnatz also mentioned her favorite teacher is her English teacher, Dr. Thibodeau.
Next fall, Garnatz plans to attend college and continue playing basketball at the next level. She one day hopes to work as a physical therapist.
In her free time, Garnatz said she enjoys spending time with friends, teammates, and creating art.
