Holland Hall Dutch Basketball
As the basketball season gets into full swing, the Holland Hall Dutch opened the season with two big wins and continue to battle in what promises to be a tough district schedule this season.
One player looking to make a difference for head coach Crystal Lawson is Makayia Johnson. Johnson is a junior this season and is playing point guard. Johnson said the team is working hard to build something special at Holland Hall this season.
“The goal for this season is to grow as a team. To push one another, grow together, and have fun together. My goal personal goal is to grow as a player mentally and physically and push my teammates to be better,” said Johnson.
Being a student-athlete at Holland Hall is a unique experience, but one that is familiar to student-athletes in Oklahoma.
“I love the flexibility that Holland Hall offers student-athletes to be able to navigate between sports and academics,” said Johnson. “I love the bonds that we share with one another and that we all work together to win as a team.”
Johnson is a member of the Dutch Spirit Club and the Med Club. Like many of her peers, Johnson has her favorites. From her favorite subject to her favorite teacher, being a student always comes first for Johnson.
“My favorite academic class would be math but my favorite overall class this year would be ceramics. My favorite teachers are Ms. Spencer which is my ceramics teacher and my math teacher Mrs. Weilacher,” said Johnson.
The future class of 2025 graduate is making plans for life after high school.
“After I graduate, I would like to attend college and play college basketball,” said Johnson.
Away from the court Johnson said she enjoys spending her free time hanging out with friends and family.
