Will Rogers’ Saniyah Morrison – Top 100 Spotlight – Presented by: Lady Roper Basketball

Saniyah Morrison is a junior at Will Rogers High School. As a member of the basketball team for the Lady Ropers, Morrison knows that it takes a lot of work to be successful. But she says that having a great support system is also an important part of achieving success.

“It takes hard work, time, and encouragement in order to get where I want to get,” she said. “My mom is the biggest role model in my life. She has sacrificed so much for me and my brothers and I am so thankful for that. Another would be my big brother. He is my role model because he never gave up and persevered through so much in his football career. And lastly, it would be my basketball coach, because he pushes me to be a better version of myself.”

Morrison has made a lot of great memories during her basketball career, but she has one moment that stands out as her favorite.

“I think the highlight moment of my career so far would have to be when I scored 30 points during my sophomore year,” she recalled. “We were playing against Stillwater in the championship game of the Enid Tournament. It felt good to see the work pay off.”

Carlin Adkism is the head girls basketball coach at Will Rogers. He says that Saniyah is an outstanding athlete that plays a big role on the team.
“Saniyah has led our team to back-to-back state tournament appearances,” Adkism said. “Last season, she was the conference Most Valuable Player, averaging 15 points per game. She is a solid kid on and off the court.”

Whenever Morrison and her teammates step out on the court, she knows that she is playing for more than just herself. She is also competing for the name on the front of her uniform.

“It means a lot to me to be able to represent my school and community when I play,” she said. “They support me through the good times and the bad times. Also, I am hoping people will give my team more credit because as a program we have accomplished a lot.”

Whenever she has down time, Morrison likes to catch up on her social media, where she has one person in particular that she enjoys following the most.

“My top person to follow is Kyrie Irving,” she said. “I think he is the greatest of all time.”
