Coweta’s Shannon Walker – Mom of the Month – Presented by RibCrib

As a mother of four, Shannon Walker knows the importance of athletics for kids. While the physical part is positive, she says that it also helps them with other things that will be beneficial for them throughout their lives.

“By making my kids’ sports and/or activities a priority, they learn that what they are doing is important to me,” she said. “For children to be successful they need the love and support of others. Also, children’s activities and sports set the foundation for their work ethics. We must teach them that when we sign up for an activity or job it is not a choice of whether they participate or not.”

Walker and her husband’s oldest child, Matti is a junior in college and is seeking her degree in Early Childhood Education. When she was in high school at Coweta, she was a member of the golf team. They also have twin sons, Brock and Brody, who are juniors at Coweta and are on the golf team. Their youngest, Mackenzie is a third-grade student and cheers for INFC.

Shannon enjoys supporting her kids in whatever ways she can, but she says that differs depending on what age they are.

“I love watching my kids play their sports,” she said. “For my older kids, I stay active in the booster clubs. I have been on the golf booster club for a number of years. For my youngest, I help coach her cheer squad.”

Education is a big part of Walker’s, more than just her own kids. She works in the education field.

“For seventeen years, I have been in education,” she said. “The last three years I have been the school counselor at Mission Intermediate Grade Center in Coweta. I am currently the Vice President of the Coweta Golf Booster Club. I am also treasurer for Coweta High School’s PTSO.”

Walker and her husband are both glad that they are able to raise their children in a community like Coweta.

“I love the family atmosphere we feel from each organization in the school,” she said.

“Over the years we have made connections with people from all walks of life.”
