Holland Hall Dutch 2023 Softball Preview – Presented by Mabrey Bank

Holland Hall Dutch Softball

Every year softball teams across the state graduate a class of seniors only to welcome in a class of players in late summer.  These newcomers can make a big impact immediately with the right ones, or they can take a little time to develop. What we do know is those same newcomers will one day be your seniors. Which is why Holland Hall head coach Stacey Walkingstick is invested in her upper and underclassmen this season.

“We are always learning and trying to get better year after year,” said Walkingstick.

Last season the Dutch went 2-12 overall and winless in district play. That district included Adair, Salina, Dewey, Sequoyah Claremore and Lincoln Christian. This season the Dutch are in Class 4A District 5, where the games will not get easier.

District 5 features the Class 4A runner-up in Tecumseh, as well as Cleveland, Cushing, Mannford, North Rock Creek, and Seminole. Non-district games in August and September include Mount St. Mary, Will Rogers, and Edison.

One player looking forward to the challenge is VYPE Top 100 nominee Cooper Methvin. Methvin said she was looking forward to seeing the new faces and watching them develop as the season moved forward.

“Some things I’m looking forward to this year is all the new players. We have always had trouble having new players come out and this season we have a bunch of girls. I’m excited to watch all these girls grow and develop as an individual and as a team,” said Methvin.

Methvin is in a junior year at Holland Hall and is one of the players coach Walkingstick will look to for leadership on and off the field this season.

The newcomers will enjoy the support they find in their teammates as Methvin explained, it’s part of what makes Holland Hall a special place to play.

“The things I love most about the team is they are so supportive and always have an amazing attitude. No matter if we are down in the game they are always cheering and making the dugout environment great,” said Methvin.

One newcomer to watch is Kaylee Seabolt. Where Seabolt will land in the lineup is a question mark, but she has shown the ability to contribute early and will be a welcomed addition to the lineup.

Expect the Dutch to compete and play hard under coach Walkingstick’s leadership as they continue the program building process and look to a few newcomers for big plays throughout the season.
