Collinsville Football Preview: Defense – Presented by J&K Equipment

Head coach – Kevin Jones

2021: 14-0

On the defensive side of the ball, Collinsville returns a few contributors from last year, but they will be called upon to fill a bigger role in order for the defense to be successful. The team-leading tackler from a year ago is Blake Gilkey (5-10, 190, Sr.), who ended last season with 92 tackles and five sacks. Along with being a key player on the defense, Blake will also be the teams primary running back this season. He is a tough-as-nails player that is both active and productive. The defensive line will have two familiar faces from last season. Landon Appleberg (6-3, 325, Sr.) and Jack Keith (6-0, 230, Jr.) combined for sixty-one tackles and two sacks last season but will be called on to make a bigger contribution this year. Huson Henslick (5-8, 155, Jr.) will be taking care of things in the secondary after totaling 51 tackles and causing eleven pass breakups. He will be called on to be a leader in the secondary this season. Assistant coaches for the Cardinals this season are Tyler Chronister, Sean Tesar, Tom Redding, Chad Weeks, Jarrod Shearer, Damon Herald, Boone Upky, Kurt Heller, and Kyle Ataway.
