9 Questions with Owasso’s Abigail Kubien – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Robert Long State Farm Agency

VYPE: Abigail, when did you start running track and who events are you competing in this season?

Kubien: I have ran track since I was in the 7th grade, so for the past five years. This season I am running the 4×100, 4×200, and 4×400 meter relays.

VYPE: What are the best and worst things about track meets?

Kubien: The worst thing about track meets are how long they last. Then the best part about track meets are the relays. As well as after finishing races, when you do good and the feeling of the team congratulating you.

VYPE: Do you have a favorite memory as a track athlete for Owasso HS?

Kubien: My favorite memory as an athlete was my junior year at the state meet when we got to go on the podium and receive our state medals for the 4×400 relay.

VYPE: Who are a couple of your teammates we need to watch this season?

Kubien: Teammates you should keep an eye out for is Sophie Gates, Dane Janowski, Bella Nelson, and Jalen Jones.

VYPE: Who keeps everyone laughing and who is the most serious?

Kubien: Someone who is constantly making the team laugh is Sophie Gates, she is always telling random stories. The most serious on the team would be Bella Nelson, she is an amazing runner, and we can always count on her to calm us down before races.

VYPE: What do you love most about being a student-athlete at Owasso HS?
Kubien: The best thing about being a student athlete is the people I have met, memories that I’ve made throughout the years, and being able to lead the younger athletes on the team.

VYPE: Are you involved with any clubs or groups at school?
Kubien: I am involved in Athletic Leadership Council as well as FCCLA and senior board.

VYPE: What are your plans after you graduate?
Kubien: I am attending the University of Oklahoma this fall. I am wanting to study to become a physicians assistant.

VYPE: Who is your favorite sports figure?
Kubien: My favorite sports figure is Allyson Felix. She is a major advocate for representation and equal opportunities for women within the sports world. Which I think is extremely important for girls who are a part of athletics.
