9 Questions with Owasso High School’s Sam Suppes – Presented by BB Meats & Deli

VYPE: Sam, what grade are you in this season and when did you start swimming competitively?

Suppes: I’m a senior and I have been a swimmer since 9th grade.

VYPE: What events will you swim for Owasso this year?

Suppes: I swim the freestyle leg in the 200 medley relay, the 50 freestyle, the 100 freestyle, and the fourth leg in the 200 freestyle relay.

VYPE: What makes this team special to you?

Suppes: I love the support and the positive attitude that my team brings to swim meets. No matter what event or who is swimming the team is there to cheer them on.

VYPE: What do you love most about being a student-athlete at Owasso HS?

Suppes: My favorite part of being an Owasso athlete is the repetition that comes along with the title. Any time other athletes hear that I am from Owasso and an athlete they always comment about how we are tough opponents, but we also have a positive culture as a whole.

VYPE: Do you have a favorite moment from this season?

Suppes: My favorite memory this season was the Owasso senior night swim meet. I loved that many of my friends and family were able to come out and support me.

VYPE: Do you belong to any other clubs or groups?
Suppes: I am a part of the Unified Club/student mentor, being in these programs mean that I get to help my peers with special needs not only in the classroom but also in numerous Special Olympic events. I am a member of student council and NHS. I also a new member of the tennis team.

VYPE: Do you have a favorite subject or teacher in the classroom?

Suppes: My favorite subject has definitely been forensics. The class is very hands-on, and we are learning new things every week. My favorite teacher has been Mrs. Martin, she is the forensics teacher. She makes the class interesting by inviting multiple different guest speakers and providing us with different labs.

VYPE: What are you plans after you graduate and what do you enjoy doing in your free time?

Suppes: After I graduate, I plan on attending OU where I plan on becoming an emergency room nurse. In my free time I love to spend time with my friends, go to top golf, and play video games.

VYPE: What is the goal for the team this season?

Suppes: We are looking forward to regionals and state. The recent bad weather put a pause in our practice schedule, but we are back at it in the pool.
