Mackenzie Kubien

Oologah High School

Oologah High School’s Mackenzie Kubien is a member of the varsity soccer team and a member of the FFA chapter at school. Kubien said she first got involved in FFA her freshman year.

“I first got involved in FFA the summer going into my freshman year of high school. I am now a junior, and I plan to attend the college of my choice playing soccer and getting a major in Biology or Physical Science and later getting my doctorate in physical therapy,” said Kubien.

The midfielder said there are too many things she likes about FFA to list.

“I enjoyed watching livestock shows and knew I wanted to be a part of it. Also, many of my best friends were in FFA. In the beginning, I thought I wanted to show livestock, but I soon realized there was more to FFA than just showing animals. I now participate in various speaking and hands-on activities within FFA. It is very hard to pick only one thing that I enjoy most about being in FFA, but I enjoy the public speaking and hands-on experience of Agriscience Fair. Specifically, I complete projects over plant sciences,” Kubien continued. “I am involved in Agriscience Fair, Public speaking, and Agricultural Issues Forums. Previously, I was involved in Floriculture and Opening and Closing Ceremonies.”

Kubien finds time to be involved in other groups such as National Honor Society, NTHS, TSA, Student Council, and My Schools Leadership Team. Kubien said her father has been a big influence in her life.

“My biggest influence in my life is my dad because he has been my biggest supporter but also my biggest critic. Although I may not like his input in the moment, I always relate back to what he told me in the future. I would not be where I am today without him being by my side. My dad taught me almost everything I know, but most importantly, it taught me how to push myself while being the best person I can be,” said Kubien.

Whether it’s FFA or soccer, Kubien said she loves being around her classmates.

“FFA is a blast and very rewarding, but you cannot come in expecting greatness to be handed to you. You must work hard and have dedication for what you want to achieve,” Kubien said. “What I love most about my teammates is the competitive nature we share as a team.”
