Head Coach – Jeff Gunter
Last season Catoosa softball and head coach Jeff Gunter had trouble getting into rhythmdue to Covid outbreaks but still managed to have a solid season. In 2021 the Indians missed two weeks of summer practice when some members of the coaching staff tested positive for the virus, then later missed three weeks of the season when several players were diagnosed. However, Catoosa battled through and played well despite the turmoil. This season Catoosa looks forward to a fresh season with less interruptions and six returning starters, lots of talent, and competitive fire across the board. Mallory Warma (P, Sr.) returns for her final season in the circle. Warma is a VYPE Top 100 nominee and do-it-all leader for the Indians. Last season she pitched in every district game and was also a big contributor at the plate managing a .343 average from the three hole. Gunter and his staff are excited to see how some of their younger players perform this year after gaining lots of valuable experience last season. Brynna Wiginton (3B, So.) had a great freshman year and started all season. Going into her sophomore season coaches expect her to take on a bigger role in the field and the batting lineup. Wiginton is also a standout basketball player, and her natural competitiveness and athletic ability will prove valuable for Catoosa moving forward. Every team needs a hard-working leader, and for Catoosa, that person is Megan Fultz (CF, P, SS, Sr.). Last season, as a junior, Fultz started at center field but also handled some pitching duties. This year coaches expect more of the same but will also have Fultz play at shortstop and will be the leadoff batter. Coaches are confident that Fultz will set the tone early for the Indians as she makes great contact with the ball and has no trouble getting on base. Gunter and his staff are excited to get their 2022 campaign underway knowing that his team doesn’t lack in work ethic and is ready to compete at every opportunity. Catoosa kicks off the fall season with back-to-back home games against Edison and Bishop Kelley.
