In family of athletes, Owasso’s Jayelle Austin paving her own path – Presented by Renaissance Realty

Owasso High School junior Jayelle Austin is a do-it-all athlete for the Rams, but she’s at her best with a bat in her hands.

“She [Austin] will be our leadoff center fielder, who is one of the best players in the area,”

Owasso head coach Shane Eicher said.

The two-time district player of the year is the daughter of two former college athletes. She also stars for the Rams basketball and track & field teams.

“My mom and dad were both very athletic. My dad played football and my mom played softball, both at NSU,” Austin said. “It runs in the family, but it also comes from all the hard work put in from a young age and just continuing to work hard as I got older.”

Austin said her parents have been her biggest supporters in her athletic career and outside of it.

“They are always there to pick me up after I have a bad game or I feel like I didn’t play up to my standards, then they will help me get better at whatever it is that I feel I need to be better at,” Austin said.

Austin, whose Rams posted an impressive 31-9 record last season, has a title on her mind this year.

“I want to win a state championship and also learn to be a better leader,” Austin said.

“I pave my own path just by working hard and not getting comfortable where I am at. There is always something I can get better at.”

To reach their goals, Austin and her teammates will prioritize “working hard at [their] practices and having each others’ backs on the field.”
