Q&A with 6A state champion, Owasso junior Bella Nelson – Presented by J-P Hogan Insurance

As only a sophomore, Owasso High School’s Bella Nelson won 6A state championships in both the 800m and 1600m. She was less than one second from breaking the state meet record in the 800. Nelson just moved to Oklahoma this year from Colorado.

VYPE: How did your sophomore track season go? Were you proud of what you accomplished?

Bella Nelson: My track season went well! I am super proud of the PRs that I ran in the 800 (2:09) and for the full mile (4:53) at Festival of Miles this past weekend!

VYPE: What prompted you/your family to move to Oklahoma?

BN: My dad got a job out here!

VYPE: What was hard about adjusting to going to school in Oklahoma?

BN: The hardest part for school was the schedule. At my old school they had a block schedule so I would only have four classes a day and here at Owasso they have all six classes everyday.

VYPE: Have you found it easier to run at the lower altitude here in the plains?

BN: Yes I have, it is way easier to run here!

VYPE: What did you learn about yourself this season?

BN: This season I learned that I can run from the front of the pack.

VYPE: How have you bonded with your teammates?

BN: My teammates have been amazing! They are all so supportive and nice, and they all welcomed me with open arms!

VYPE: What do you hope to accomplish before you graduate from OHS? What steps are you taking to make that happen?

BN: I hope to break some more school records and to get a lot more PRs!
