Wyatt Thompson gives Coweta a boost of enthusiasm on the basketball court.

The senior guard helped the Tigers get off to a fast start in the 2022-23 season.

“I think so far this season I have contributed the most by creating a spark of energy whenever needed, which is important especially in close games,” Thompson said.

The Tigers, who are ranked 10th in Class 5A under head coach Brandon Maddux, won seven of their first 10 games and had a season-best four-game winning streak that included wins over No. 7 Bishop Kelley and Claremore.

“As a team, I am proud of how far we have come, but I don’t think any of us are satisfied right now, so we just need to continue working and getting better everyday,” Thompson said.

Thompson, who has played basketball since first grade, has made progress in several areas over his playing career.

“My strengths on the court are my court vision and shooting,” he said. “From last season to this season, I have most improved on vocal leadership and leading by example.”

He enjoys anything that has to do with shooting a basketball and being around his teammates.

“My favorite drill to do while training would be any competitive shooting drill and just getting to be around my teammates on and off the court everyday.”

Thompson’s biggest basketball influence is 12-time NBA All-Star guard Chris Paul.

“I try to model my game after Chris Paul,” he said. “Although he is undersized, it doesn’t stop him from being the most impactful player on the court.”

During his free time, Thompson enjoys spending time with his family and friends as much as possible.
