Hi, what are you looking for?

Bixby

Getting to know Bixby’s Joshua Newkirk – Presented by The Orthopaedic Center

VYPE: What are your goals for this season?

Joshua: To be the best I can in all my events and get top three in all my events at state.

VYPE: What has your sport taught you that you use in your daily life?

Joshua: I would say being disciplined would be one of the biggest things I have learned from doing sports at Bixby, specifically during football. My coaches have taught me a lot.

VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade and why?

Joshua: I would say my math teacher from 7th and 8th grade year, Ms. Benson, would be my favorite teacher just because she was a really good teacher. I had fun in class and got along with her, and she also helped me a lot with math.

VYPE: Who inspires you and why?

Joshua: My mom is one of the biggest inspiring people in my life. Definitely, she is the reason I am here to this day. She has trained me and is one of the reasons I am the young man I am to this day, especially having helped me with track. I get most of my speed from my mom I would say. She has broken records at her schools when she ran track in college.

VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?

Joshua: I would say one of the graduating seniors from last year, Miles Hill, has definitely inspired me a lot and just taught me how to control my anger and embrace my talent more. He was like my big brother on and off the field definitely.

VYPE: What is your favorite part about being on a team?

Joshua: I would say just being a leader on the team and getting to hang out and be around my friends all the time is definitely my favorite. Especially when I get to compete and get better with them everyday.

VYPE: You can pick any place for a summer vacation, where do you go and who do you take with you?

Joshua: Honestly I’ve traveled so much in my life where I really don’t have anywhere I would like to go. My dad was in the military for 22 years so I’ve been to alot of places. Now honestly I would rather just stay at home and chill with friends.

VYPE: Why are you passionate about your sport?

Joshua: Football and track have really just something I have loved my whole life since I was a kid. I’ve always been a very competitive person my whole life, so sports has just been a way to compete. Also, I love when I can let my anger out on other teams during the game.  Also, both my mom and dad played sports their whole life so it inspires me to be better than them and compete with what they have done in their life.

VYPE: Here is your chance to say hello, goodbye or thank you to anyone you wish.

Joshua: Thank you to all my coaches and teammates that have inspired me in my life. I would like to thank my parents for supporting me my whole life with all my sports and for pushing me to be the good athlete I am today.
