Collinsville’s Beau Oxford – Athlete Spotlight – Presented By J & K Equipment Rentals

By Derrick Smith

There are a lot of things that go into becoming the best athlete that you can be. Beau Oxford says that it is more than just showing up at scheduled practices.

“It takes long hours in the batting cages,” he said. “Also, countless ground balls, mental preparation, eating right, and getting a full night’s rest. Those are all important in becoming a solid athlete.”

Oxford is a senior at Collinsville High School. He has played baseball for about 14 years and currently plays first base.

He has had a lot of great experiences during his time playing baseball with the Cardinals but Beau says that there is one moment he will never forget, and he did not even play in the game.

“I’d say getting to go with the varsity guys to the state tournament,” he said. “I may have not played or even gotten a jersey but to be around those guys and see them play to their best of their abilities was truly special.”

There have been a lot of people that have had an influence on Beau’s life over the years. He says that out of all of them, there are two people who have had the greatest impact.

“My parents are the biggest role models for me,” he said. “They have taught me everything I know and have been there for me since day one.”

Another person that has played a big role in Oxford’s life is a teacher that he had when he was younger.

“Mrs. Loewe would have to have been my favorite teacher,” he said. “She teaches seventh and eighth grade English and I had her when I was in the eighth grade. I think the most important thing she taught me was how to push myself to be the best version of myself that I could be.”

Beau already has his future planned. After he graduates in the spring, he is going to be joining the United States Navy.
