Oologah’s Layney Molini – Soccer Spotlight – Presented by Tulsa Bone & Joint

There is a lot that is required in order for an athlete to be successful. Not only do they have to put in the work, they also have to be willing to miss out on things that they would normally do. Layney Molini says that for her to get where she is has taken a lot of extra work.

“It has taken a lot of sacrifice and a lot of time,” she said. “I’ve put all I had into soccer, especially club, driving to Oklahoma City and back three to four times a week to be on a successful club team.”

Molini is in her junior year at Oologah High School, where she is a member of the school’s soccer team.

She has made a lot of great memories over the years, but she says that there is one moment that stands out as her favorite.

“The  highlight of my career was receiving a full ride scholarship from Texas Tech University and committing to play D1 college soccer there,” she said. “I’ve dreamed of this since I was a child and it is my biggest accomplishment.”

Along with the work she has put in, Layney says that her teammates have played an important role in her development.

“In high school, I like working against my teammate Ava Penner,” she said. “Ever since I joined Oologah soccer, she has pushed me to be not only a better soccer player but a better person. She is always pushing me to be better and I love that challenge. I think the most under-appreciated person on my team is my teammate Zoey. Zoey started playing soccer her sophomore year and doesn’t get much time on the field however she brings amazing sportsmanship and kindness to the team. She always uplifts people and has the best attitude. That’s often a role not noticed as much but I notice it and I think Zoey is amazing for what she does on this team building people up always.”
