Q & A with Catoosa Softball’s Carmen Ellis – Sponsored by Catoosa Dental Arts

VYPE: Who are some of your biggest influences or role models?
Carmen: I have a few role models in my life. One is my grandma Joyce because she helps
me realize that working hard always pays off. My dad is always getting things done, he’s
always committed to what he does, and always has a goal to achieve. My mom, she is very
selfless, never gives up on anyone, she always has the ability to overcome hard obstacles,
she also helps me influence my basic values especially in my education choices.
VYPE: Which teammate do you enjoy working against the most with in practice?
Carmen: Autumn Shearer since she is the most athletic, competitive, and hard working.

VYPE: Who is your favorite person you follow on social media?
Carmen: Grace Lyons because she always has great ways to motivate people, and she
always involves God in what she does.
VYPE: What teacher has had the biggest impact on your life?
Carmen: My fifth grade teacher will always have had the biggest impact on me, she helped
me with my self esteem, motivated me to learn more than I wanted to, and she always
challenged me to use my keen intellect and taught me to always have high expectations for
myself.
VYPE: What motivates you?
Carmen: What motivates me the most is achieving my goals, working well as a team, and
learning new things.
VYPE: Who is the least appreciated player on your team?
Carmen: Irizarry David. She is a great player and always does the right thing, but she isn’t
ever appreciated.
VYPE: What has it taken to be successful in your sports?
Carmen: Always be involved in what I’m doing, if I make mistakes, fix them and move on,
and never tell myself that I “can’t” do something, always think that you can do it.
VYPE: What does it mean to you to represent your school and community when you play?
Carmen: It helps improve the school’s culture, and it increases a sense of belonging,
knowledge, and identity.
VYPE: What clubs and campus activities are you involved with?
Carmen: I play softball and I powerlift.
VYPE: Any other info that you think would be good to know.

Carmen: I’ve broken seven fingers playing softball, four of those times was playing catch
with the same person. She is no longer my catching partner.
