Q&A with Owasso’s Jayelle Austin – Presented by BB Meats & Deli, LLC

VYPE: What goals do you have for this year in basketball?
Jayelle: My goal for us this year is to make it to the state tournament. My personal goal is to beat a rebounding record.

VYPE: What has basketball taught you that you use in your daily life?
Jayelle: Basketball moves so fast that it helps me focus on what’s next rather than what just happened.

VYPE: What’s your favorite style of shoe to wear in game?
Jayelle: Kyrie Irving Nike.

VYPE: Who inspires you and why?
Jayelle: Shaquille O’Neal because he had to work extremely hard to get where he is today and he is very nice and giving person.

VYPE: What do you think is the biggest challenge in basketball?
Jayelle: One of the biggest challenges I face is being able to stay present in the game and not getting in my head if I am not performing the way I want to.

VYPE: What do you think makes a great basketball player?
Jayelle: What makes a good basketball player is someone who is hard working, willing to put in extra time, and be a good teammate.

VYPE: Who in your family is the best athlete? Explain.
Jayelle: Other than me I would say my dad is the most athletic person in my family. He is very versatile and there isn’t much that he can’t do.

VYPE: What’s one sport you wish you could play that you don’t already play?
Jayelle: Volleyball because I love to jump and spiking the ball seems like it would be fun.

VYPE: What’s your go-to pregame song?
Jayelle: My favorite pregame song is “Can’t Hold Us” by Macklemore.
